About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to implement the direction received from the Supervising Technician Fleet to ensure the HABC fleet vehicles/equipment are properly serviced and maintained. This position will interact with HABC site/division staff, service/repair contractors, and others while carrying out fleet responsibilities. This type of work involves the performance of semi-routine and diversified duties in connection with repairs to and maintenance of HABC fleet vehicles/equipment. Incumbent generally works independently and exercises a great deal of judgment in resolving problems in the act of repairing and maintaining vehicles/equipment. This position will also be required to serve as a driver representing HABC staff and outside guests to designated destinations. All activities must support the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (“HABC” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school, vocational school, or equivalent, preferably supplemented by technical courses in mechanic repairs and maintenance.
  • A minimum of three (3) years practical work experience in repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Maryland driver's license.
  • Must be able to be covered under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Successful completion of a prescreening investigation, including verification of employment history and education credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and Inputs Fleet invoices into the Fleet Software Program for HABC.
  • Obtains and installs light bulb replacements, installs new wiper blades, and installs batteries in HABC vehicles.
  • Observes vehicle conditions and reports them for servicing to ensure vehicle safety is maintained.
  • Works as an integral part of the snow removal team, including after-hours evenings and weekend work when inclement weather conditions dictate.
  • Provides urgent and emergency services to residents and sites during times of crisis and special needs.
  • Transports daily vehicles from site to site and vendor to site for logistical and maintenance needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring all HABC vehicles are transported to the State Emissions Stations for required Emission testing.
  • Operates Bobcats, forklifts, and snowplow trucks.
  • Assists in the installation and removal of snowplows and salt spreaders as the seasonal weather requires.
  • Arranges for repair of tires and replacements for the Agency vehicles.
  • Assists HABC drivers when vehicles break down by repairing when possible and calling tow trucks when repairs cannot be made on the road.
  • Assists in the organizing and cleaning of the Fleet facilities at Duncanwood.
  • Drives dignitaries and residents to HABC sites when needed and/or situations dictate.
  • Assists the Fleet Manager in identifying drivers when speed and traffic light camera tickets are received and follows up to ensure proof of payment has been made.
  • Organizes and maintains proper fleet parking on the upper Duncanwood Lane Parking Lot.
  • Assists and works with auctioneering company staff as HABC retires vehicles.
  • Coordinates auctioned vehicle pickups with successful bidders.
  • Prepares new Fleet vehicles by painting HABC & City ID numbers on each.
  • Obtains and installs HABC identifying stickers/decals on appropriate HABC vehicles.
  • Obtains City gas cards from the City & ensures HABC insurance information & registrations are placed in the glove box of each vehicle & replaced upon expiration dates.
  • Makes visits to MVA facilities to obtain duplicate titles, tags & vehicle registrations.
  • Assists in maintaining organized key control of Fleet vehicles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
