About The Position

Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for aerospace, sporting goods, motorsport, and industrial markets. You will find our thermoset composite products on nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also provides composites materials to industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics, and sports equipment. Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex®, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircraft, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys. Our Cetex products are available in unidirectional tape or fabric form in a variety of engineered thermoplastic resins including PAEK, PEKK, PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP. Summary of Functions: The Maintenance Engineering Intern will support the Maintenance and Facilities Engineering team in improving equipment reliability, preventive maintenance programs, and operational efficiency within a manufacturing environment. The intern will assist with data analysis, documentation, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives while gaining hands-on experience with industrial equipment and maintenance management systems. This role provides exposure to maintenance engineering practices, reliability engineering principles, and industry standards related to safety, quality, and operational excellence. The intern will gain experience in: Industrial equipment maintenance Reliability engineering fundamentals Preventive and predictive maintenance strategies Root cause analysis methods CMMS systems and maintenance data analysis Manufacturing operational environments To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term. If you are not pursuing a degree, you will not qualify for this opening. Summer internships are available up to 40 hours per week (typically M-F 8am - 430pm).  Potentially, this could be a year-round (on-site) position, at about 20 hours per week during normal business hours. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and schematics
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel or data analysis tools
  • Ability to create structured, report‑style documents using Microsoft Word
  • Interest in manufacturing or industrial maintenance environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD software such as AutoCAD/Solidworks
  • Ability to measure mechanical components using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, torque gauges, hardness testers, and other metrology tools.
  • Ability to evaluate electrical components and equipment using measurement instruments such as ammeters, voltmeters, and other electrical test devices.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma concepts
  • Exposure to PLC systems or industrial automation

Responsibilities

  • Assist department engineers and technicians in analyzing equipment downtime and identifying root causes.
  • Support the development and improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Participate in equipment inspections and maintenance planning activities.
  • Assist with reliability improvement initiatives for critical production equipment.
  • Collect and analyze maintenance data from CMMS systems (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Support development of dashboards and reports for Equipment downtime, and other reports
  • Assist in identifying trends and recommending improvements.
  • Assist in drafting and maintaining technical documentation including:
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Preventive maintenance instructions
  • Equipment manuals and technical files
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) and engineering documentation updates.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to increase equipment uptime and efficiency.
  • Work with maintenance technicians, manufacturing engineers, and production teams to support daily operations.
  • Participate in equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Assist in project work related to equipment upgrades or facility improvements.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Support maintenance activities aligned with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Ensure documentation and maintenance records are accurate and compliant.
