The Maintenance Engineer (ME) reports directly to the Administrative Director of Facilities (ADOF). The ME is responsible for maintaining the proper operation of all machinery and mechanical equipment. The ME is assigned preventative maintenance tasks via a preventative maintenance (PM) program and is responsible for completing these tasks on time, with frequencies ranging from monthly to five-year intervals. These tasks include life safety and utility criticality PMs that must be 100% complete based on the task frequency. PM assignments cover a wide array of requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic controls, digital controls, boilers, chillers, tools, pumps, electrical systems, and steam generators. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting malfunctions by following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications. The ME is also responsible for snow removal and performing repairs on patient care equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, gurneys, and nurse call systems. The ME is required to respond to hospital-wide emergency codes efficiently, following all organizational protocols applicable to the engineering department.
