About The Position

Cenovus Energy is seeking a motivated Maintenance Engineer In-Training (EIT) to support our Lloydminster Thermal & Conventional Heavy Oil (LTCHO) operations. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer to contribute to asset integrity, reliability, and long-term sustainability initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic heavy oil environment.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • 2+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably within operating facility environments (conventional and SAGD assets).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registered with APEGA or APEGS.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with solid knowledge of oil and gas equipment, maintenance practices, and reliability principles.
  • Must maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of SAP PM module and asset management systems (preferred).
  • Experience with Management of Change (MOC) processes and/or project leadership (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Support SAP asset data development, including functional locations, equipment hierarchies, and master data creation.
  • Review engineering drawings, vendor documentation, and turnover packages to identify Maintenance Significant Items (MSIs).
  • Lead risk-based equipment criticality assessments and apply reliability-centered methodologies to develop asset management strategies for new and existing facilities.
  • Develop preventive maintenance (PM) programs, equipment bills of materials (BOMs), and recommend critical warehouse spare parts.
  • Identify Safety Critical Equipment (SCE) and Production Critical Equipment (PCE), ensuring alignment with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Analyze maintenance strategies and KPIs to drive continuous improvement, close performance gaps, and strengthen reliability standards and best practices.
