About The Position

Alliant Energy is seeking a Maintenance Electrician, which may be filled at the Apprentice or Journey level depending on qualifications. This role is responsible for performing varied electrical, basic control and instrument, and basic mechanical maintenance activities to maintain the generation facility and high voltage substation to which they are assigned. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Journey level in the electrical trade OR Completion of a State Approved Apprenticeship Program
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Employees in this job classification are covered by the Residency Policy and will be required to live within 60 minutes of one of the following locations: Columbia, Edgewater, Riverside, or Madison.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
  • Possesses skills in basic mechanical and basic instrument and controls
  • Knowledge in theory and skills in non-structural welding
  • Mechanical comprehension
  • Ability to work from blueprints, diagrams, drawings, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with steam plant cycles and operations
  • Must possess technical ability
  • Knowledge of company safety rules
  • High degree of mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
  • Strong leadership ability
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical and basic mechanical troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, cleaning, inspecting, and constructing equipment and systems for the generation facility.
  • Performs maintenance of electrical equipment at an electric generating station and high voltage substation.
  • Maintains and installs basic plant control systems and similar activities.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and assists with required testing of equipment and systems.
  • Processes all necessary documentation.
  • Operates and/or obtains information from various basic mechanical and electrical devices used to support specific equipment diagnostics or work activities; gathers, interprets, and logs data.
  • Is proficient in the use of various powered and/or hand tools as job needs dictate.
  • Supports safety, plant reliability, productivity, and plant efficiency improvements by participating in various continuous improvement activities.
  • Performs various generating plant and shop area housekeeping functions.
  • Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
  • Performs other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
