Maint Electrician
About The Position
The Maintenance Electrician works with limited supervision and is responsible for supporting the safe and reliable operation of Chemi-Con Materials Corporation equipment, machinery, switchgear, and electrical systems. The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, monitoring, and troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, switchgear, plant equipment, and machinery. A significant responsibility of this position involves working with electrical distribution equipment and switchgear, including systems operating up to 13.8 kV. The successful candidate must demonstrate the knowledge, experience, and ability necessary to safely troubleshoot, maintain, and service industrial switchgear and associated electrical systems in accordance with company procedures and applicable safety requirements. This position also performs mechanical maintenance as necessary and is expected to independently diagnose equipment and system problems with limited supervision.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of general industrial electrical and/or mechanical maintenance experience, including a minimum of one (1) year of in-house experience.
- Demonstrated industrial or plant electrical maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with industrial switchgear and electrical distribution equipment.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and ability to safely troubleshoot, maintain, and service switchgear and associated electrical systems.
- Ability to recognize electrical hazards and understand appropriate electrical isolation, Lockout/Tagout, and safe-work procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, motors, controls, disconnects, and electrical distribution systems.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment with limited supervision.
- Good mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English as necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the position.
- Reliable and regular attendance is an essential requirement of the position.
- Completion of company-required Hazard Communication training, with annual refresher training.
- Completion of applicable electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout training.
- Completion of required switchgear and medium-voltage training and qualification as applicable to assigned duties.
- Respirator training and/or fit testing may be required depending on assigned duties.
- Must follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Additional job-specific safety training may be required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with medium-voltage electrical systems is strongly desired due to the electrical systems utilized within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, install, inspect, test, and troubleshoot industrial electrical equipment and systems with minimal supervision.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and service plant switchgear and electrical distribution systems, including systems operating up to 13.8 kV, within the employee’s training and authorization.
- Demonstrate the ability to safely identify, diagnose, and respond to switchgear and electrical distribution system problems.
- Maintain, repair, install, and troubleshoot transformers, rectifiers, motors, controls, disconnects, electrical panels, and associated electrical equipment.
- Safely perform required electrical isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures involving switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, machinery, and associated systems.
- Verify appropriate isolation and zero-energy conditions before performing work as required by company procedures.
- Maintain, repair, install, inspect, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and machinery as required.
- Diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and electrical systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and other technical documentation.
- Assist the Production Engineering Supervisor or Manager with troubleshooting and resolving complex electrical, mechanical, and equipment problems.
- Assist with training maintenance personnel as directed by the Production Engineering Supervisor or Manager.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of plant equipment and systems throughout Chemi-Con Materials Corporation.
- Follow all electrical safety, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, confined-space, and other applicable company safety procedures.
- Communicate equipment conditions, completed repairs, outstanding issues, and safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance needs in a timely manner.
- Participate in the department’s periodic one-week on-call rotation.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
