About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Electric Supervisor, this position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, metering equipment, control systems, and related systems in Utility facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Associate degree in electrical technology or related field or an acceptable combination of training and experience in electrical maintenance, electrical wiring electrical systems, and electric construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and mechanical applications.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess a valid South Dakota Class A CDL with air brakes license or obtain it within 180 days of hire.
  • Must have a valid South Dakota Journeyman Electricians license.
  • Other such testing as deemed necessary by Brookings Municipal Utilities / Swiftel.

Responsibilities

  • Programs, installs, maintains, and tests single and polyphase electric meters and other associated metering equipment.
  • Assists with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and verification of the AMI system and related communications infrastructure.
  • Maintains meter testing and calibration routine.
  • Track meter records and coordinates information with the Billing Department.
  • Programs, installs and wires Microprocessor based control devices in Utility facilities.
  • Assists with SCADA hardware and software upgrades, repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintains the electrical equipment and systems located in the Utility Building, electrical system, water and wastewater plants, lift stations and well houses.
  • Performs all necessary wiring to connect single and three phase motors, relays, contactors and thermostats.
  • Checks, repairs and maintains motor control circuits, heating units, alarm circuits, switches, outlets, generators, lights in Utility facilities working with one and three phase, AC and DC circuits.
  • Maintains and repairs signal light systems and controls.
  • Performs duties in a manner consistent with safe practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
