About The Position

There is a job opening for a Maintenance Mechanic at Ascend Performance Materials’ Pensacola site. Normal working hours are 0630-1700, Monday-Thursday. Successful candidates will be required to pass a written mechanical skills assessment test. Candidates must demonstrate a positive attitude and show personal initiative while striving to satisfy customer needs through high quality maintenance and repair of critical plant equipment. Work with Operations Coordinators, Lead Craftsmen, Planners, and Maintenance FLL’s to identify and resolve improvement opportunities related to work execution and equipment reliability. Execute assigned work safely, effectively, and with high quality in support of the daily operations and maintenance plan. Troubleshoot and repair equipment by using an analytical, step by step process, standard maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines. Contribute to the shops’ safety process, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) development, and instructing others on the proper use of equipment and tools. Use SAP to enter notification and/or create work orders, enter job history, and reserve materials. If a shift craftsman, update the Priority Orders system daily with findings after working on equipment in the field. Daily work activities will include shop and/or field troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, and performing preventive maintenance activities on any equipment supported in the plant. Individuals will be expected to perform work at a high level of precision, quality and cost effectiveness while providing significant contributions in a team environment. This is a demanding assignment where technical abilities, equipment knowledge and dedication to customer needs are essential. Overtime is required as needed in support of plant operations. Mechanics will be utilized across the site to support shutdowns, emergencies, and specific skills as determined by maintenance leadership. Actively participate in safety processes and instruct others on the proper and safe use of equipment and tools. Execute work safely, effectively, and with high quality in support of the daily operations and maintenance plan. Must be able to perform and repair proper maintenance on control valves, manual valves, manual ram valves, and conservation vent valves. Must be able to read and interpret manufacture drawings and parts diagrams. Must be able to perform precise measurements of various parts associated with valve repairs. Must be able to perform detailed scopes of work for all valve repairs. Must have a good understanding of hazards associated with actuator disassembly and be able to interpret information from manuals to determine safe disassembly of spring-loaded actuators. Must be able to determine specific metallurgies for critical parts on various valves across the site. Must be able to communicate with various valve vendors when repairing valves back to OEM specs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven hands-on Industrial Maintenance experience.
  • Ability to work closely with key maintenance and operations personnel in providing effective and quality results.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand equipment specifications, technical information, detailed drawings and prints.
  • Must be able to produce sketches and provide inspection documentation that is required when evaluating complex equipment.
  • Fundamental shop math knowledge and the application of. (Manipulation of fractions, decimals, basic geometry and trigonometry.)
  • Skilled in the use of various precision measurement tools. (Vernier & dial calipers, ID & OD micrometers, dial indicators and set up tooling.)
  • Ability to understand and follow preventive maintenance plans and strategies.
  • Skilled in coupling alignment utilizing laser equipment and/or reverse dial indicator methods.
  • Knowledge of various types of and proper application of fasteners, gaskets, tubing, and piping.
  • Lift and carry equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds for distances of up to ten (10) feet.
  • Have the ability to climb, bend, stretch, crawl, and position yourself in cramped areas to build and repair material and equipment.
  • Must be able to read and interpret manufacture drawings and parts diagrams.
  • Must have a good understanding of hazards associated with actuator disassembly and be able to interpret information from manuals to determine safe disassembly of spring-loaded actuators.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years proven hands-on Industrial Maintenance experience in the major overhaul of critical equipment. (Air & process compressors, steam turbines, centrifuges, pumps, gearbox drives, blowers, and fans.)
  • Ability to operate both conventional and complex diagnostic instruments.
  • Hands-on experience and fundamental knowledge in the areas of vibration analysis, rotor balancing, and lubrication.
  • Experience in the safe operation of basic Machine shop equipment. (Lathes, mills, drill press, mag-base drill, and various grinding equipment.)
  • Welding, cutting, soldering/brazing and arc gouging.
  • Able to document findings and summarize in written reports.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
