About The Position

This is a temporary position with the NC Dept of Agriculture & Consumer Services – Agricultural Sciences Center (ASC). This facility houses laboratories and administrative offices. The role offers opportunities to grow in mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry. The Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center (ASC) contains regulatory laboratories for the Department of Agriculture, including the Food & Drug Protection Division Chemistry, Microbiology, and Pesticide Residue labs; the Veterinary Division Animal Disease Diagnostic lab; and the Standards Division Weights and Measures lab and Fuel Quality testing lab. These labs support the Department's regulatory work and ensure consumer protection. The Facility Maintenance section is responsible for all buildings and maintenance for the ASC and its satellite laboratories. In addition to general maintenance and equipment repair, this position may assist with groundskeeping and incinerator operation. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of the practices, tools, and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry and/or the repair of equipment.
• A valid NC driver’s license.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to effectively communicate and understand verbal and written instructions regarding work assignments.
• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Assigned trade areas: Commercial general maintenance, carpentry, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, groundskeeping, and incinerator operation and maintenance.)
