About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) manages over 100 locations across the state, including 27 historic sites, seven history museums, two art museums, five science museums, four aquariums, 35 state parks, four recreation areas, dozens of state trails and natural areas, the North Carolina Zoo, the State Library, the State Archives, the N.C. Arts Council, the African American Heritage Commission, the American Indian Heritage Commission, the State Historic Preservation Office, the Office of State Archaeology, the Highway Historical Markers program, the N.C. Land and Water Fund, and the Natural Heritage Program. The Department’s vision is to be the leader in using the state's natural and cultural resources to build the social, cultural, educational, and economic future of North Carolina. This role is responsible for hands-on work maintaining grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Work includes, custodial tasks, boundary line clearing, routine maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance and/or auto mechanics.

Requirements

• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: CPR Certification, Emergency Medical Responder Certification, Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications, Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.

Nice To Haves

• Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
• Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
• Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
• Operating large and small equipment and/or tools.
• Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
• Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
• Assisting in housekeeping.
• May Supervise temporary and permanent staff, community service participates, and/or volunteers on special projects.
