Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities. The primary purpose of the Plant Maintenance Section is to ensure the successful operation of the physical plant and facility infrastructure. Carpentry is responsible for requisition and procurement of materials, project management, and construction of new structures. This position is responsible for all aspects of building maintenance, including the renovation, repair, and functional alteration of 600,000 square feet of building space. Work assignments also include tasks such as door adjustments, lock repair and installation, cabinetry, furniture repair, pouring and finishing concrete, masonry, vinyl and ceramic tile replacement and installation, roofing, and fabrication of adaptive items for Murdoch Center’s clients. Work performed by carpentry maintenance staff involves the use of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders.
