About The Position

This is a temporary position with the NC Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Sciences Center, located at 4400 Reedy Creek Road, Raleigh NC, Wake County. The Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center (ASC) houses the regulatory laboratories for the Department of Agriculture. The Facility Maintenance section is responsible for all buildings and maintenance for the ASC and the three veterinary division’s satellite laboratories. This position assists with maintenance and repairs of the general physical buildings, mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems, equipment, and surrounding grounds. This includes assisting with monitoring operating systems including chillers, boilers, HVAC, and incinerators, and repairing plumbing, electrical and carpentry issues. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of the practices, tools, and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry and/or the repair of equipment
  • A valid NC driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to effectively communicate and understand verbal and written instructions regarding work assignments
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Assigned trade areas: general maintenance, carpentry, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, groundskeeping and incinerator operation and maintenance (must have at least one).
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal Technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulation Part 82, Subpart F.
