About The Position

The Biomed Tech 2 is a highly skilled and experienced member of the Facilities Department, holding primary responsibility for the advanced maintenance, complex troubleshooting, testing, calibration, and repair of a diverse range of sophisticated medical equipment and specialized electrical circuits throughout GSHCS. This senior-level role demands unique technical expertise in critical patient care technology and complex facility systems, including participation in the electrical safety program. The Biomed Tech 2 will also play a key role in mentoring Bio-Medical Tech 1’s, performing comprehensive equipment evaluations, and providing expert recommendations for system improvements and new acquisitions. This position is vital to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, operational efficiency, and technological readiness within our facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree (two-year degree) in Bio-Medical Equipment Technology, Electronic Technology, or a closely related technical field minimum.
  • Valid State issued Driver’s License required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of previous experience as a Biomedical Technician, preferably in a hospital or large clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in the advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex medical equipment, including imaging systems (Radiology), life support, and critical care devices.
  • Proven experience with nurse-call systems.
  • Exceptional expertise in reading, interpreting, and working from complex equipment schematic diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering blueprints.
  • Advanced troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair skills for highly complex medical and electrical systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to resolve sophisticated technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to non-technical staff and leadership.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential, including the ability to train, mentor, and guide Biomed Tech 1’s.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate, timely, and thorough documentation.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software relevant to equipment management and diagnostics.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance, consistently adhering to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive patient and hospital information.
  • Ability to take evening and weekend calls on a rotating basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering technology or a related field preferred.
  • Radiology repair certification.
  • Oregon State Restricted Energy or Limited Maintenance Electrician license.
  • Other relevant certifications (e.g., specific manufacturer certifications) are a plus.
  • Bilingual (English Spanish) speaking preferred; ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced safety testing, preventative maintenance, complex repairs, and comprehensive documentation on a wide array of biomedical patient care equipment, including but not limited to, life support systems, laboratory instruments, and critical care devices.
  • Proactively identify needs for new equipment, parts, and system upgrades, communicating detailed requirements and recommendations to the Facilities Manager.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations on existing and proposed equipment, providing expert recommendations and technical specifications to other departments for acquisitions and system enhancements to ensure quality patient care and operational excellence.
  • Read and interpret complex equipment schematic diagrams, technical manuals, and blueprints to diagnose and resolve highly technical issues.
  • Accurately identify defective components and provide precise information for ordering replacement parts, ensuring timely and effective repairs.
  • Lead and mentor Bio-Medical Tech 1’s, providing on-the-job training, technical guidance, and support.
  • Ensure meticulous and timely documentation of all maintenance, repairs, installations, evaluations, and safety tests, contributing to comprehensive equipment history records.
  • Actively participate in and champion the hospital's electrical safety program, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.
