About The Position

The Maintenance Automation Technician performs the functions of an Automation Technician, focusing on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining automation systems. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment, documenting system changes, and supporting automation systems during off-shift hours. The technician will also be involved in continuous improvement initiatives, project management, and mentoring other team members. A key aspect of the role is ensuring all plant rules and safety procedures are followed, including Lockout and Tag-out protocols.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Must have degree/training as Electrician.
  • Must have at least two 2 to 5 years experience as Automation Technician.
  • Must have experience with machine and facility power and wiring - indoor and outdoor.
  • Must possess good interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Actively participates in the PRIDE and FIBER Processes.
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Must be able to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry, and reach frequently.
  • Ability to lift packages weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds frequently.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot PLC ladder logic in both Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms.
  • Must be able to write ladder logic in both languages.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot communication issues with equipment in the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with procedures found in SMS.
  • Perform all job duties using safe work methods.
  • Comply with Corporate Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy.
  • Work normally scheduled days adhering to starting and stopping times. Work overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot Automation System problems and facilitate necessary repairs. Determine cause of Automation System failures and take necessary steps to prevent recurrence. Determine if mechanical or electrical conditions exist that cause Automation System failures and communicate the problem to the proper personnel.
  • Responsible for documentation and communication of all new, upgraded or revised software, programs and communication equipment delivered.
  • Will follow up on work tasks performed to be sure that they have been done correctly.
  • Responsible for the Automation System support during off shift working hours. Should assistance be needed to make off shift repairs, contact the proper personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and perform all work in a safe manner. Follow the Lockout and Tag-out procedures when performing work on equipment. Should management request that you perform an unsafe practice, you should contact the plant Engineer for approval.
  • Willing to work various hours on any shift or shifts as may be needed.
  • Will be available "on call" during scheduled times. During the "on call" times, individual will be available to provide advice, assistance, and physical support if the problem requires.
  • Attend meetings concerning department or plant as required.
  • Ensure all plant rules and safety rules are being followed.
  • Use Six Sigma Tools for continuous improvement.
  • Perform audits as required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with instructions, work orders, and service manuals.
  • Assist other maintenance department personnel as needed.
  • Must be able to work at different heights and work from a lift truck basket or ladder as needed.
  • Active member of TPM activities.
  • Manage projects from initial scope development to completion of installation.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot PLC ladder logic in both Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms.
  • Must be able to write ladder logic in both languages.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot communication issues with equipment in the facility.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce automation and electrical standards for Plant 78.
  • Coach and mentor Automation Technicians and Electricians.
  • Scope, create, and execute capital projects.
  • Assist other plant personnel as needed.
