About The Position

The Maintenance Assistant helps repair and maintain the nursing center’s physical structure safely and efficiently, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, established procedures, and supervisor direction. The role handles routine and unscheduled maintenance, equipment testing and upkeep, repairs, grounds maintenance, construction assistance, and cleaning projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on air conditioners and heaters.
• Use a pressure washer as requested.
• Use electrical tools and equipment, including voltmeters, drills, and saws, when appropriate.
• Check oxygen levels in concentrators and perform scheduled or needed concentrator maintenance.
• Perform water temperature tests as requested or scheduled.
• Test fire alarm systems and fire safety equipment as scheduled or needed.
• Build patient-use structures and perform carpentry using materials such as wood, plaster, and cement.
• Perform general maintenance and plumbing repairs, including replacing or unclogging hair traps, unplugging toilets, repairing washers and dryers, and replacing broken pipes or water lines.
• Maintain and replace electrical outlets and light bulbs, and rewire or replace wiring in center equipment.
• Install and check smoke-alarm batteries.
• Assist with fire drills, check fire extinguishers, and assist the fire marshal with inspections.
• Remove furniture and clothing from unoccupied rooms or help move patients’ belongings to another room.
• Paint the interior or exterior of the center and, as needed, install wallpaper.
• Assist with construction of additions to the center.
• Maintain center grounds by removing garbage and, as needed, mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and weeding.
• Perform routine laundry-equipment maintenance as scheduled or needed.
• Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as requested.
• Perform generator testing and routine maintenance as scheduled or needed.
• Assist with major cleaning projects as requested or needed.
