About The Position

The Maintenance Assistant supports resident health and safety by helping maintain a safe, sanitary, and attractive environment for residents and staff. The role follows a standardized preventive maintenance program to help ensure the optimum performance and appearance of the facility’s buildings, grounds, systems, and equipment. It contributes to high standards of care and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• One to three months of related experience and/or training.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• One year of previous experience in a healthcare or assisted living environment.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Help carry out the ongoing preventive maintenance program and schedule.
• Help maintain kitchen, housekeeping, and laundry equipment, as well as heating and cooling units.
• Assist with miscellaneous repairs and upkeep of the building structure, including hallways, walls, ceilings, floors, baseboards, door jambs, and handrails.
• Remove ice and snow from all exits during winter.
• Perform light maintenance duties, such as stocking supplies, taking out trash, cleaning and straightening equipment rooms, replacing filters, and cleaning ventilation ducts.
• Follow safety procedures when using solvents, cleaning chemicals, ladders, electrical tools and equipment, and when lifting and transporting supplies and equipment.
• Help with resident admissions and room changes by moving furniture or other items and helping residents hang pictures.
