About The Position

The Assistant Engineering Manager supports in overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of all hotel facilities, equipment, and systems to ensure a safe, comfortable, and efficient environment for guests and team members. This role assists with supervising the engineering team, coordinating preventive maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and helping maintain the overall functionality and appearance of the property. The Assistant Engineering Manager also serves as a leadership resource for the department and may oversee operations in manager's absence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of facility maintenance or engineering experience, preferably within hospitality or commercial facilities.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective leadership, coaching, and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, and reach; lift and carry equipment and supplies; walking daily up and down the stairs and sitting for periods up to 4 hours and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with or without reasonable accommodations.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training in engineering, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience using maintenance management software (CMMS) preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CPO, HVAC, electrical, or OSHA safety) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of hotel systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Support the daily supervision, scheduling, training, and development of engineering team members.
  • Help coordinate and execute preventive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety standards and policies.
  • Assist with monitoring departmental budgets, labor costs, inventory, and purchasing of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, inspections, and projects.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues, such as power outages or plumbing failures, to minimize guest disruption.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address guest concerns related to facility issues promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Assume departmental leadership responsibilities during the Engineering Manager's absence.
  • Other tasks or duties as requested by your supervisor.
