About The Position

This apprenticeship program provides real-world, hands-on experience while completing applicable courses through Northwest State Community College. Apprentices at Kalmbach Feeds will gain practical experience through diverse training, including installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production facility equipment. The program aims to build confidence for autonomous work and foster a positive, proactive approach. The successful candidate will collaborate effectively with all departments, management, and employees. Apprentices will learn to repair, replace, modify, and troubleshoot manufacturing structures and equipment of a mechanical, electrical, and/or structural nature. They will also maintain accurate daily records in the computerized maintenance management system, gain knowledge of PLCs, operate various machinery, perform preventative maintenance, and keep their work area organized and clean. Other related corrective maintenance functions may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • Hold basic knowledge of Safety/OSHA Acts at all times, in a manner that supports a respectful, cooperative, and positive work environment.
  • Must hold or be actively working to obtain a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to bend, reach, squat, lift and work at heights.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds minimum to replace motors, pumps, extruder screws, etc.
  • Capable of basic computer skills (MS Office Suite).
  • Must be able to work on raised platforms and high areas.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with no suspensions.
  • Willing to work outside in weather conditions.
  • Hold basic knowledge of Safety/OSHA.
  • Ability to meet tight schedules and handle multiple assignments.
  • Knowledge of PLC.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, replace, remove, and/or modify manufacturing structures and equipment to correct feed manufacturing problems of a mechanical, electrical, and/or structural nature.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of all work performed daily in the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Wear a full-face respirator and pass pulmonary testing.
  • Operate tow motors, pallet jacks, aerial man lifts.
  • Assess, diagnose, and evaluate feed manufacturing problems of a mechanical, electrical, and/or structural nature.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (e.g. lubrication, inspection, etc.) for feed manufacturing structures and equipment.
  • Maintain work area, tools, parts, and equipment in a clean and organized manner for the purposes of safety, efficiency, and appearance.
  • Perform other related corrective maintenance functions or duties as needed.
