About The Position

Under the general direction of the Regional Maintenance Manager, this position develops and administers the Region's M&O related state and federal capital improvement programs, including deferred maintenance projects completed by contract and force account. The Regional Maintenance & Operations Specialist contributes to DOT's mission to keep Alaska moving through service and infrastructure through the oversight of multiple construction contracts, managing region-wide equipment rentals, administering capital improvement projects, and perform similar duties in support of the Regional Maintenance and Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
  • Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • General Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of engineering and their practical applications.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
  • Road Work and Pavement: Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to construct, maintain, or repair road surfaces, including sidewalks, parking lots, runways, etc.
  • Transportation: Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including costs and limits.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in highway, street, utility, or airport maintenance, operations, design, or construction; project or program management, engineering; construction management; business administration, or other closely related field.
