About The Position

This position is for a Maintenance A role at the Annex location, effective immediately. The role reports to the Director of Buildings and Grounds. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. This includes the operation and maintenance of boilers, sewage, air and heating equipment, and pneumatic controls. The role also involves chemical treatment and testing of boilers, filter changes, and cleaning of HVAC equipment. Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), carpentry, and mechanical skills related to locks, bearings, guttering, downspout, roof repairs, and brick/block setting is required. Electric skills in low and high AC and DC voltage are also necessary. The position involves assisting with snow removal, estimating materials, time, and costs for jobs, and performing other duties as assigned. The Maintenance A is expected to work with other maintenance personnel, maintain an inventory of parts, and ensure District tools and equipment are in good working condition. Vehicle maintenance and cleanliness are also responsibilities. Additional duties include landscaping, assisting with custodial duties in emergencies, and responding to after-hours emergency calls. Working hours may be adjusted for special projects.

Requirements

• Associate Degree or High School Diploma with a minimum of five years of commercial/industrial maintenance experience.
• Working knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
• Knowledge of sewage, air and heating equipment, boiler controls, pumps, and pneumatic controls.
• Knowledge of chemical treatment and testing of all boilers in the District.
• Knowledge of filter changes and cleaning of all HVAC equipment.
• Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Knowledge of carpentry and mechanical skills of locks, bearings, guttering, downspout, roof repairs, and laying brick and block setting and building forms.
• Electric skills in low and high AC and DC voltage.
• Physically fit.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to read simple instructions and understand written requests.
• Ability to work with others.
• Must hold and maintain a valid license to drive in Illinois.
• Minimum of three references (one character, two former supervisors/evaluators).

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

• Change filters and clean all HVAC equipment.
• Utilize knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Perform carpentry and mechanical tasks including lock repair, bearing maintenance, guttering, downspout repair, roof repair, and brick/block setting.
• Perform electrical work in low and high AC and DC voltage.
• Assist with snow removal.
• Estimate material, time, and cost for specific jobs.
• Accept and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds.
• Work with all maintenance personnel in completing tasks.
• Maintain inventory of necessary parts to minimize equipment downtime.
• Keep track of and maintain District tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Keep assigned service vehicle clean, neat, orderly, and ensure routine maintenance is performed.
• Mow, trim shrubs, and trees, and perform landscaping as needed.
• Assist District maintenance personnel as assigned.
• Substitute for custodial personnel in emergency situations.
• Respond to after-hour emergency calls if needed.
• Change working hours as determined by the Director of Buildings and Grounds for special projects.
