About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic Technician III is responsible for the maintenance and repair of packaging and process equipment, including electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic sub-systems. This role involves troubleshooting equipment failures, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement processes. The technician will also handle electrical and control system troubleshooting and repair, new equipment installations, and general facility maintenance. Additionally, the role requires record-keeping, ensuring facility cleanliness and safety, and obtaining technical support when needed. Fabrication and welding skills are also utilized in this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' experience with mechanical and electrical systems, including conveyor/sortation systems and related equipment, in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Advanced mastery of PLC and sortation control systems.
  • Strong prioritization skills and ability to make decisions independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to oversee the timely completion of multiple daily tasks.
  • Ability to train new employees and mentor junior technicians.
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer programs and systems.
  • Good working knowledge of building codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and engineering specifications.
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn new trades.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Willing to work days, nights, weekends, and overtime if required.
  • Computer & technology literate.
  • Basic fabrication skills.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent education.

Nice To Haves

  • Industrial Mechanic trade school courses or certificate (i.e., electrical, controls, plumbing, welding, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of experience in related field with working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including conveyor systems in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently troubleshoot system or equipment failures or poor performance.
  • Repair, adjust, or calibrate packaging and process equipment, including electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic sub-systems.
  • Determine the root cause of complex equipment performance issues and make appropriate corrections or recommendations.
  • Support the design and implementation of continuous improvement processes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to production-related equipment and powered industrial trucks.
  • Troubleshoot low and high voltage electrical and control systems from 24v to 480v devices (AC and DC), including repair or replacement of system components.
  • Recommend and perform installations of new or replacement equipment.
  • Work with or oversee in-house and third-party installation.
  • Detect, diagnose, and resolve electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating/cooling, and equipment problems before they impact the operation of the facility.
  • Contact equipment manufacturers to obtain information, technical support, and guidance when written documentation is unavailable.
  • Order spare parts if needed.
  • Use hand tools, power tools with a variety of materials to build or custom equipment or repair existing devices such as guards, stands, or panels.
  • Perform general facility repairs such as minor plumbing, general electric, lighting, painting, and wall repair.
  • Perform minor repairs on doors and dock plates.
  • Use resources effectively to complete major repairs and tenant improvement work.
  • Communicate with peers, customers, and management to accomplish assigned and critical tasks.
  • Oversee third-party projects to completion.
  • Perform necessary data entry (i.e., shift reports, work orders, down time logs, preventative maintenance logs).
  • Complete forms required by the Quality Department before machines are returned to service.
  • Maintain records to ensure accountability of tools and parts.
  • Ensure primary work areas are left in an organized, neat, and clean manner.
  • Identify and act immediately regarding any safety hazards, spills, etc.
  • Use safe lifting techniques and operate power equipment in a safe manner.
  • Abide by all stated regulations while performing works, i.e., lockout/tag out procedures, etc.
  • Communicate with peers, customers, and management regarding safety issues and training requirements.
  • Train new employees and mentor junior technicians.
