About The Position

Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, involved in civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction. This is a full-time, seasonal position based in Fort McMurray and surrounding areas, requiring a flexible schedule with 10+ hours per day and overtime after 8 hours/day or 44 hours/week. The role involves working with ground personnel in the excavation and installation of pipe on line and grade, ensuring proper trench depth and grade, and safe lowering of materials into excavations. The operator must be able to work in close proximity to ground personnel and other equipment, and promote a strong safety culture.

Requirements

Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Mainline Hoe operator.
Experience in water/sewer installations, subdivision servicing, roadway construction and urban renewal projects.
Personal Reliable Vehicle
CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
Ability to work in physically demanding conditions
Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule

Responsibilities

Work with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe on line and grade.
Ensure trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade.
Be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensure safe work procedures are followed during the lowering of materials into the excavation.
Operate excavator in close proximity to ground personnel and other equipment.
Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
