About The Position

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Mainframe Systems Programmer opportunity in Charleston, West Virginia. This role involves managing and maintaining z/OS environments, deploying and supporting third-party vendor products, monitoring system health, diagnosing complex issues, and participating in disaster recovery planning and testing.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience with SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, JES2, SDSF, and JCL.
  • Proficiency in Assembler, REXX, or COBOL.
  • Generally 3 to 10+ years of dedicated mainframe systems programming experience depending on the seniority of the role.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Mainframe Systems Engineering, with at least three (3) years specifically focused on IBM z/OS operating systems and ISV (Independent Software Vendor) software upgrades and maintenance.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience managing and configuring RACF (Resource Access Control Facility) for mainframe security, including user administration, access permissions, and security logging.
  • OR a minimum of two (2) years of experience acting as a Mainframe D82 subsystem installation, migration, performance tuning, and database maintenance.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience implementing and managing Mainframe Pervasive Encryption (dataset, dataset-level, and coupling facility encryption) and ensuring adherence to Mainframe SSA (Social Security Administration) compliance or similar federal security frameworks.
  • Experience working with SAS for mainframe data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Mainframe AFP (Advanced Function Presentation) printing systems and print queues.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain z/OS environments, LPARs, and Parallel Sysplex architectures.
  • Deploy and support third-party vendor products (such as IBM and CA/Broadcom tools) using SMP/E.
  • Monitor system health, analyze RMF/SMF data, and optimize system performance or storage management.
  • Diagnose complex hardware/software issues, read system dumps, and coordinate with vendors like IBM for resolutions.
  • Plan, test, and execute disaster recovery protocols to protect critical enterprise data.
