Automation Skill Profile- Mainframe Automation Engineer (z/OS System Automation)
About The Position
CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Automation Engineer (z/OS System Automation) position for our client. This is an ongoing contract role that is fully remote. The position involves supporting mainframe automation initiatives within a z/OS environment, encompassing operational support, service delivery, consulting, and automation engineering. The engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automation solutions using IBM NetView for z/OS and IBM System Automation for z/OS. Key projects include participating in z/OS Automation Migration Projects, such as migrating from CA-OPSMVS to IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS, and supporting the migration from CA-Automation Point to IBM Systems Automation for Integrated Operations Management. The role requires developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting REXX automation scripts and System Automation Policy Database (PDB) definitions, as well as configuring and managing automated z/OS system startup, shutdown, recovery, and operational processes. Proficiency in TSO and ISPF for system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and operational activities is essential, along with developing and maintaining JCL for automation, system operations, and batch processing. The engineer will analyze automation requirements, recommend solutions to improve system availability, operational efficiency, and resiliency, and assist with the implementation and testing of fully automated IBM Z system configurations. Troubleshooting automation-related incidents and collaborating with infrastructure and application teams to resolve complex technical issues are also key responsibilities. Documentation of automation configurations, procedures, migration activities, and operational processes is required. The role may also involve expanding automation capabilities across additional IBM Z software and competing automation products.

- 5+ years of experience working in a mainframe operations environment in an operational, service, consulting, or technical support role.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and using NetView for z/OS and System Automation for z/OS.
- Experience writing REXX and working with the System Automation Policy Database (PDB).
- Experience with z/OS Automation Migration Projects.
- Strong hands-on experience with TSO, ISPF, and JCL.
- Experience supporting z/OS system startup and shutdown procedures and automated system configurations.
- Knowledge of other z/OS software, including system operation, configuration, automation, and SMP/E.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with technical teams and stakeholders.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of products that compete with IBM mainframe automation solutions is preferred.
- Experience with fully automated system configurations on IBM Z is preferred.
