About The Position

The Mainframe z/OS Systems Engineer Lead will lead and support enterprise mainframe system engineering activities, ensuring high availability, resiliency, and performance of the z/OS platform. This role involves close collaboration with managed service providers and internal teams to optimize services, resolve incidents, and enhance system scalability.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of experience supporting IBM z/OS systems in a SYSPLEX environment.
  • RACF Security Administration experience.
  • z/OS Systems Programming experience.
  • CICS TS Systems Programming experience.
  • MQ Systems Programming experience.
  • DB2 experience (systems programming level not required).
  • ISV production installation experience.
  • Experience with IBM System Automation.
  • Experience with batch scheduling tools such as Control-M.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and technical guidance capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of hands-on experience in mainframe z/OS system engineering roles.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SYSPLEX and ICF configuration and tuning.
  • Experience decoupling SYSPLEX environments.
  • Experience with middleware interfaces such as AIX, WebSphere, LDAP, and networking components.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP network communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of IBM z16 hardware infrastructure and Dell/EMC storage subsystems.
  • Experience with pervasive encryption on z/OS.
  • Experience designing ransomware protection solutions for mainframe environments.
  • Knowledge of Java/J2EE and DB2/UDB.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of mainframe system engineering activities.
  • Collaborate with the existing mainframe managed service provider to improve service quality, resiliency, and availability.
  • Analyze applications and systems on the Z platform and recommend improvements to scalability and resiliency.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for incident assessment and service restoration.
  • Support problem management and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to diverse engineering teams.
