About The Position

This position is part-time, with weekly hours subject to change according to operational requirements. At present, we estimate a commitment of approximately 25 hours per week. The Mail Specialist assists and performs various departmental functions including sorting and delivery of internal and external mail, delivery of internal supplies, preparation of special mailings, maintaining the department warehouse, operation of mailroom equipment and computer systems, preparation of departmental reports, and coordinating the purchase of departmental items. Three (3) levels exist within this position. This position is a step progression with time requirements and with more responsibility assigned as experience is gained.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of customer relations, including communication techniques and skills.
  • Ability to sort and deliver mail.
  • Ability to operate a postage machine.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 55 lbs. on a daily basis.
  • Ability to key at 35 words per minute.
  • Ability to be flexible for cross-training and reassignment as required to meet department needs.
  • Ability to be flexible to work shift hours as required to meet department needs.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with coworkers, vendors and outside agencies.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six (6) months office/clerical experience or related education.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License, with good driving record.
  • Successful demonstration of ability to lift and move 55 lbs.
  • Successful completion of typing test at 35 words per minute.
  • Successful completion of interview process.
  • Successful completion of forklift training.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months mail center experience
  • Basic word processing/PC experience.

Responsibilities

  • Sort and deliver inter-office mail.
  • Fill and deliver supply requests.
  • Pick up from and deliver mail to the U.S. Post Office.
  • Apply postage to and process mail.
  • Answer phones and assist employees, vendors, etc.
  • Access vendor websites such as UPS and FedEx to prepare trackable deliveries such as overnight and ground letters/packages.
  • Answer warehouse door and assist drivers with deliveries.
  • Drive to deliver and pick up mail from various District offices.
  • Receive address update information from U.S. post office website, reviews and enters address updates.
  • Perform emergency backup of bill print and inserter operation for the Print Shop.
