About The Position

To provide mail and parcel processing, distribution, and customer service for University departments, faculty, staff and students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of related experience
  • Current valid Drivers License with clean driving record
  • Ability to provide friendly, professional, and responsive service while assisting students, faculty, staff, and other customers with questions and mailing needs.
  • Ability to accurately sort, process, track, and distribute mail and packages while maintaining organized records and supplies.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and operate mail processing, package tracking, shipping, point-of-sale, and related equipment and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow established procedures, manage multiple tasks and priorities, and work dependably both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)
  • Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)
  • Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Daily (>75% of time)
  • Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of postal regulations preferred
  • Experience with postage equipment
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Windows and tracking software

Responsibilities

  • Receive and sort incoming and outgoing mail/packages for distribution and shipment.
  • Provide on campus pickup and delivery of mail to departments and student pickup and delivery at mail services location.
  • Use tracking software to ensure tracking of all packages/mail and in lockers.
  • Receive USPS, UPS and FedEx shipments at mail center.
  • Operate Pitney Bowes postage meter and scale for processing outgoing mail.
  • Ensure safety while operating vehicles for delivery on campus. Be cautious of students and community members all around campus while delivering. Be sure vehicles are maintained and operating correctly.
  • Ensure mail discounts when available utilizing software for comparison.
  • Research and readdress return mail to include forwarding.
  • Responsible for inventory of supplies.
  • Provide customers with excellent customer service while handling many questions/concerns and/or issues related the mailing process.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and understanding and caring attitude.
  • Safely operate Gonzaga University Mail Services vehicles.
  • Provide customers with options for postage, shipping costs utilizing zip code research and service provider comparison.
  • Prepare outgoing mail/shipments with use of computer-based shipping software systems and corresponding transportation manuals.
  • Serve as cashier, reconciling daily transactions.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Department.
