The Mail Courier is responsible for delivering U.S. mail, internal mail pouches, and parcels to on- and off-campus locations. The role sorts correspondence for timely delivery, returns correspondence to the main campus for delivery to end users or the mailroom according to applicable protocols, processes mail using a metered mailing machine and appropriate cost center numbers, and performs order fulfillment from warehouse inventory. The position includes postal facility pickups; safe operation of straight trucks and cargo vans; detailed mail and parcel pickup and delivery; customer service; mail staging and sorting; campus and off-site deliveries; specified hospital and records-area runs; warehouse inbound and outbound tasks; and outbound mail processing. The courier may complete STAT requests and must prioritize pickups and deliveries in the best interests of off-site locations, Albany Medical Center, and patient care when designated supervisors are unavailable. The job requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid New York State driver's license, and a copy of a Standard Driving Record (Abstract). Minimum experience includes 1–3 years in a service position involving supply chain, shipping, and receiving, and 1–3 years driving a commercial vehicle. Candidates must demonstrate basic Microsoft Windows competency, communication and customer-service skills, sound judgment, cooperation, and the ability to organize work independently to meet delivery deadlines. The position is per diem. Physical demands include regularly driving for an eight-hour shift and loading and unloading boxes and bags; occasional standing for up to eight hours, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting packages weighing up to 50 pounds. Depending on assignment, the employee may use a USPS mailing machine and work in healthcare campus or off-campus practice environments with variable noise, traffic, chemicals, biohazards, and crowds.
