About The Position

Assists Department Supervisor and Lead Mail Assistant as needed to provide adequate and efficient mailroom service to County departments. Collects and retrieves mail from the U.S. Post Office and various County buildings. Receives and sorts all interoffice correspondence and U.S. mail into mailboxes. Weighs and post U.S. mail for County departments which includes separating pieces for bulk rates. Receives and processes numbered article forms including courier package. Drives to Post Office and other County locations daily to perform scheduled mail runs in all weather conditions. Receives and signs for certified, registered, or express mail including courier deliveries. Keeps record of accountable/numbered correspondence. Performs various mailroom duties: copying, tabbing, folding, labeling, stuffing, shredding, including the delivery of large parcels. Assists with end of month reports by gathering data from spreadsheets. Daily use of Mail Center equipment and software. Enters data into spreadsheets. Creates outgoing courier labels online. Checks mailboxes for errors throughout the day. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Computer and Internet knowledge.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others.
  • Physical stamina--capable of standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift heavy items.
  • Ability to function in a fast paced and fluctuating work environment.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must take a defensive driving course every 3 years.
  • Availability to work on Saturday for Special Election mail.
  • Must successfully complete 30/60/90-day assessments; Failure to meet assessment expectations may impact continued employment.
  • Current employee of Fort Bend County.
