About The Position

We are seeking a Magnetics Engineer to support the development, optimization, and industrialization of high‑performance rare earth permanent magnets, with a primary focus on NdFeB magnet systems. This is an entry level, hands‑on technical role responsible for supporting magnetic design, performance optimization, process‑property relationships, and manufacturing scale‑up. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in magnetics theory and measurement with practical experience in magnetic material research and/or sintered magnet manufacturing and process development.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with a strong focus on magnetics or magnetic materials.
  • 3+ years (or equivalent advanced degree experience) in permanent magnet development or magnetics engineering or magnetic materials research.
  • Deep understanding of: Permanent magnet theory NdFeB and/or SmCo magnet systems and/or New Magnetic Materials
  • Hands‑on experience with sintering and heat treatment process.
  • Strong analytical and experimental problem‑solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in new magnetic materials and rare-earth reduction strategies.
  • Exposure to magnet coatings, corrosion protection, and environmental durability.
  • Experience working in sintering and heat treatment trials and its relationship with microstructure and magnetic properties.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of heavy-rare-earth minimization or free approaches.
  • Support experimental projects that optimize process–structure–property relationships across powder preparation, alignment, compaction, sintering, grain growth, and annealing.
  • Evaluate alloy chemistry, microstructure, and phase behavior to improve magnetic performance and thermal stability.
  • Support product realization from lab and pilot‑scale magnet development to full‑scale production.
  • Support manufacturing operations related to magnetic variability, yield loss, or performance degradation.
  • Assist R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams on HREE-reduction approaches to meet the project goals/timelines.
  • Actively engage with a variety of measurement techniques SEM, EBSD, XRD, LECO, etc during material development.
  • Correlate magnetic measurement results with microstructural analysis.
  • Mentor and train technicians in magnetics, fundamentals and best practices.
  • Support intellectual property development and technical documentation.
  • Represent USA Rare earth via trade shows, conferences or publications.
