About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position performs diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams. The technologist exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures, MRI safety considerations and provides a quality patient care experience. The role involves extensive knowledge of MRI equipment operation, patient positioning, administering contrast material, obtaining patient history, and accurately documenting in patient records. It also requires utilizing electronic medical record software for scheduling and billing, understanding patient physical and emotional status, and possessing extensive knowledge of cross-section anatomy. The technologist will work with all ages of patients. Facility sites may expand job responsibilities to include on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays, and may perform basic diagnostic radiology tasks, mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an American Medical Association (AMA) approved or Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) approved school is required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) certification is required at the time of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within six weeks of employment and recertified as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) training or experience preferred.
  • As per Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) and American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation requirements, MRI certified or certification to be obtained within two years post-hire is preferred.
  • If working in North Dakota (ND) and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the ND Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRT) is required.
  • In the state of Iowa, all technologists must have a permit to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health in order to practice in the state of Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams.
  • Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures and MRI safety considerations.
  • Provides a quality patient care experience.
  • Initiates life support measures as necessary.
  • Interacts effectively with patients, family members, physicians, and other health care workers.
  • Has extensive knowledge of operation of all MRI equipment.
  • Positions the patient and provides for comfort during the exam.
  • Administers contrast material as required.
  • Obtains patient history and clinical indication for MRI study.
  • Accurately documents in patient records.
  • Utilizes electronic medical record software for accurate scheduling and billing procedures.
  • Obtains information from patients or their responsible parties to improve personalized treatment and care.
  • Develops an understanding of the patient's physical and emotional status.
  • Performs diagnostic radiology procedures.
  • Performs basic diagnostic radiology tasks and is aware of general radiology protocols.
  • May perform mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.
