About The Position

This is a paid training program (Passerelle DEP usinage) offered by Pratt & Whitney Canada, in partnership with Centre de services scolaire Marie-Victorin (Nova Formation), for individuals who hold a DEP in machining techniques. Participants will be paid $25/hour to obtain a new DEP in machining, recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec, through a Recognition of Acquired Competencies (RAC) program. This multi-month program provides complementary numerical control training to prepare future CNC Machinists for Pratt & Whitney. Pratt & Whitney Canada is a global leader in the aerospace industry, based in Longueuil, Quebec. The company manufactures next-generation engines for a wide range of aircraft and helicopters, with a nearly 100-year history of innovation in engine development for various aviation segments.

Requirements

  • Hold at least a DEP in machining techniques
  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of registration and be eligible to work in Canada permanently
  • Master documentation and plan reading (manufacturing drawing)
  • Proficiency in French (oral and written)
  • Good understanding and reading of English
  • Excellent learning ability
  • Analytical mind and problem-solving skills (understanding and logic)
  • Interpersonal skills: teamwork and positive attitude
  • Good knowledge of the English language, both written and oral, is required for this position given the operational needs of the Employer and the people with whom the candidate will interact

Responsibilities

  • Develop, operate, and adjust a wide range of numerical control machine tools, including lathes, grinders, milling machines, spark machining machines, and laser cutting machines, to machine new parts and repair worn parts
  • Work from drawings, standard work instructions, sketches, and verbal instructions from the supervisor or team leader
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of parts using precision measuring instruments such as jigs and three-dimensional measuring machines
  • Support quality management, equipment maintenance, and material rotation
  • Maintain logbooks
  • Perform simple deburring
  • Install details such as bushings and nuts
  • Wash, store, pack, and move parts
  • Ensure that part standards and specifications are met
  • Organize and keep your workstation tidy
  • Comply with high standards regarding occupational health and safety
  • Participate in practical training to improve current skills and acquire new ones
  • Share knowledge and best practices with other team members
  • Contribute to the development of new parts or procedures for specific methods and tools
