About The Position

The Machinist is responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. This position is part of the Kollmorgen team in Radford, VA and is a designated Weekend Shift role, working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on 12-hour shifts. Kollmorgen is part of Regal Rexnord.

Requirements

Associates degree in Machine Technology or related field or equivalent experience (at least 5 years relevant experience)
Strong knowledge of machining processes, tools, and equipment
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications
Strong mathematical skills (geometry, tolerances, measurements)
Ability to maintain high precision and tight tolerances
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, collaboration, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks

Nice To Haves

Experience with CNC programming (lathe and milling)
Experience designing or modifying fixtures and tooling
Experience working in a manufacturing or precision machining environment

Responsibilities

Program and operate CNC lathes and milling machines to perform precision machining operations
Set up machines, fixtures, and tooling to ensure accurate part production
Interpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications to determine machining methods
Select and recommend appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds for machining operations
Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure tolerance and quality requirements are met
Maintain tight tolerances and dimensional accuracy across complex machining operations
Troubleshoot machining issues and identify defective materials or abnormal conditions
Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure product quality
Design or modify fixtures and tooling to support production and special engineering needs
Maintain equipment, work area cleanliness, and adherence to all safety procedures
