About The Position

The Machinist (CNC/Manual) position programs and operates one or more CNC machining center to perform drilling, tapping, milling, boring and other machining operations over a range of surfaces, diameters, and depths. Determines operation sequence, select, and adjust tools and mount in storage matrix. Job set-ups may be complex and require milling to very close tolerances.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Formal technical training credits in a recognized college-level program
  • 0-2 years of experience with heavy equipment production line CNC/Manual machining
  • Ability to maintain positive, cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Skill in working efficiently and accurately to keep up with production requirements
  • Safe material handling skills in working with steel
  • Capacity to learn quickly
  • Flexibility and adaptability in coping with pressures, deadlines, and rapidly changing situations

Responsibilities

  • Programs and operates one or more CNC machining centers to perform drilling, tapping, milling, boring, and other machining operations.
  • Determines operation sequence, selects, and adjusts tools and mounts them in the storage matrix.
  • Studies blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Inspects finished workpieces to blueprints, quality standards, and exact tolerances using measuring and inspection tools.
  • Sets up and operates machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Consults with engineers, production management, programmers, or others to resolve machining or programming problems.
  • Operates alternately more than one type of machine tool such as grinders, drill presses, lathes, etc. on machining operations of moderate complexity.
  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Performs correct machine adjustments and obtains correct materials.
  • Sets up and lays out to print specifications.
  • Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces.
  • Adjusts stops and replaces dull tools.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
  • Stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished workpieces.
  • Completes related paperwork necessary to maintain accurate manufacturing records.
  • Maintains and uses all appropriate PPE.
  • Uses material handling equipment when required.
  • Actively participates in accident prevention and adheres to all safety requirements.
