About The Position

LPI Corporation, part of HEICO, manufactures products for jet engines, aircraft components, and other aerospace and defense applications. The company is seeking a full-time, direct-hire Machinist in Hollywood, Florida. The Machinist is accountable for setting up and operating a production machine and performing a variety of related tasks. The position requires measuring finished workpieces for conformance to specifications, installing and aligning tools and workpieces, monitoring machine operation, and adjusting machine settings or cutting programs as needed. The role also involves handling materials, tools, fixtures, and equipment, including lifting workpieces manually or using hoists or cranes, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
At least 2 years of experience in the field or a related area.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English, and communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to use basic shop math.
Ability to solve practical problems involving concrete variables and limited standardization, and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
Knowledge of machining practices and techniques, basic mechanical principles and shop mathematics, setups, tooling applications, operating methods, and the machinability of materials.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear during work.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
May work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

Nice To Haves

May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in the area of specialty.
Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures; experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; and a degree of creativity and latitude.

Responsibilities

Measure finished workpieces with precision instruments, templates, and fixtures to ensure they meet specifications.
Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Listen for machine sounds that may indicate dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to address problems.
Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or modify machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or machines malfunction.
Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement according to machining sequences.
Lift workpieces onto machines manually or with hoists or cranes.
Modify cutting programs to address operating problems and save the modified programs.
Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
Enter control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
Move material, tools, fixtures, and equipment as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
