About The Position

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Machinist – Level 2 or Level 3 to join our team in Promontory, UT. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. We are excited for you to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. Our domain provides rewarding work that contributes to the latest advancements being made in the missile defense industry. This position will work a swing shift 4x10's Sunday - Wednesday 4 pm to 2:30 am schedule.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 2)
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 3)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • A minimum of a 2-year technical degree and/or a certificate in machine shop technology
  • Candidate must have 2+ years’ experience on 3 Axis CNC machines (for Level 2)
  • Candidate must have 4+ years’ experience on 3 Axis CNC machines (for Level 3)
  • Must have experience running manual machines and performing set-ups
  • Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications (English)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve unforeseen, unique issues as they arise in machining a part(s)
  • Experience in complex measurements and advanced shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds
  • Ability to understand and work with knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and disciplines
  • Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain
  • Expert on materials and machining processes
  • Able to work overtime and weekends as required
  • Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods
  • Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the workday
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Nice To Haves

  • 4 and 5 Axis CNC machine experience a plus
  • Proficiency in CAM programming with Mastercam preferred
  • Experience with Siemens, Fanuc, & HAAS Controllers preferred
  • Expert in GD&T, experience with CAD model interpretation and translation into Mastercam preferred
  • Experience machining energetic materials a plus
  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)
