About The Position

The Machinist Technician will support in the fabrication, machining, and maintenance of precision components and assemblies used in the development and testing of advanced robotic systems. Working within a fast paced R&D and prototyping environment, this role requires hands on expertise in machine shop operations and a strong ability to work cross functionally with mechanical and systems engineers to bring hardware from concept to physical reality.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands on machining experience in an aerospace, defense, robotics, or advanced manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with manual and CNC machining operations including milling, turning, and grinding
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Experience with a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, titanium, and engineering plastics
  • Working knowledge of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a robotics or R&D prototyping environment where rapid turnaround and frequent design iteration are the norm
  • CNC programming experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM, or similar)
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools
  • Exposure to metrology and inspection equipment including CMM, optical comparators, and surface plate work
  • Experience with EDM, waterjet, or other non-traditional machining methods is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual and CNC machine tools including mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses to fabricate precision parts from engineering drawings and CAD models
  • Set up and program CNC equipment, selecting appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for a range of materials
  • Support prototype builds and iterative hardware development cycles, often turning around quick build requests for engineering
  • Perform first article inspection and in process quality checks using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repair of shop equipment
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T callouts, and BOMs with minimal oversight
  • Collaborate directly with robotics and mechanical engineers to troubleshoot fabrication challenges, flag tolerancing issues, and recommend DFM improvements
  • Maintain inventory of raw stock, tooling, and consumables
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop environment in compliance with safety standards and 5S practices
