About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating conventional and CNC machining centers to produce high-precision parts that meet engineering and quality specifications. The Machinist Technician will impact production efficiency and product quality by collaborating with engineering, mentoring less-experienced team members, and contributing to lean initiatives. This is an onsite, 1st shift position (5:00 AM - 1:30 PM) at the Irvine site.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of industry-related machining experience in a high-technology manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to read and follow blueprints, complex drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Proficiency in making and evaluating complex machine setups and using advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
  • Hands-on experience with manual machines (engine lathes, Bridgeport mills) and CNC machines; experience with prototype and short-run production and tooling production.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining and process issues.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet the physical demands of the role.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a specialized operator or other machining-related certifications.
  • Experience using coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and job-specific software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate conventional and/or special-purpose machines to complete diversified and difficult production operations to close tolerances.
  • Run multiple machines efficiently, potentially performing simultaneous operations and improvising tooling when required.
  • Interpret blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, and verbal instructions to meet customer requirements.
  • Interface with engineering to resolve drawing errors, suggest design changes, and solve product/process problems.
  • Make complex setups using custom and standard holding devices and develop/define processes with limited documentation.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (gages, calipers, micrometers, comparators, surface plate, possibly CMM) and perform SPC to maintain quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining problems and maintain equipment cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Train and mentor less-experienced team members and contribute to or lead lean initiatives.
