About The Position

A Machinist is responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining a variety of machine tools to produce precision metal parts and instruments. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure products meet exact measurements and quality standards. Machinists perform routine equipment maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary adjustments to optimize machine performance. They may also collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and uphold safety and compliance standards throughout all stages of production.

Requirements

  • Requires broad knowledge of operational systems and practices typically gained through prior work experience and/or education.
  • Requires minimum of 4 years of experience and may require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience.
  • May require vocational training and/or certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines or willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with basic measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Understanding of blueprint reading and basic GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in a manufacturing environment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic computer literacy for entering data or operating machine interfaces
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production setting

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
  • May modify numerically controlled programs on numerically controlled (NC) machines.
