About The Position

The Machinist IV role is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. The Machinist IV is a subject matter expert of all machining equipment. This individual will be responsible for training, mentoring and assessing other machinists while exhibiting the highest level of execution and behavior expected of SPM Oil & Gas employees. The Machinist will be operating a Nomura model hba-135p- r5.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Critical Safety Devices and their purpose.
  • Understanding of all permit systems.
  • Ability to accurately complete all work-related documents.
  • Understanding of basic operating principles for plant machinery.
  • Fluency in English, including reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions and resolve basic problems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Commitment to following safety and security procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Machinist, Millwright, Provincial Trade Certification, or Red Seal certification.
  • Experience with Nomura Machines and their controls

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Follow machining sequences, setup requirements, and machine parameters across multiple machine types.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe materials or workpieces to guide machining.
  • Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment.
  • Set machine controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut.
  • Retrieve, input, edit, or write CNC machine control programs, including G and M Code.
  • Set up and run machines to verify accuracy of settings and programmed control data.
  • Monitor machine operation, troubleshoot malfunctions or alignment issues, and make adjustments as needed.
  • Verify finished workpieces, assemblies, dimensions, alignment, and quality compliance.
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies.
  • Identify worn tooling, replace inserts, grinding wheels, and carbide cutters, and complete daily preventative maintenance as required.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production teams, programmers, and others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • Apply experience with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Mazatrol, and Okuma OSP.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
