About The Position

As a Machinist IV you will perform non-repetitive tasks of complex and difficult nature involving the set-up and operation of several machine tools to produce precision components. This role requires advanced application of knowledge in mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to make or modify production parts, to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years experience (or associates degree with 2 years of experience)
  • Excellent knowledge of G and M Codes, Feature Cam, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of manual, digital, and electronic measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Work from engineering drawings, rough sketches, production diagrams and verbal instructions to machine a variety of complex components.
  • Measure, visually examine, and test completed units for defects and to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate manual machines or machine tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Program computers or electronic instruments, such as numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Determine operating methods and sequences; lay out, set up and machines precision components, tooling and fixtures to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • May support prototype development activities, working with design engineers and mechanical designers on the design feasibility of prototype machine parts and assemblies relative to form, fit and function.
  • Make complex calculations to layout difficult patterns and determine tooling feeds and speeds. Know the working qualities of several materials including aluminum, steel, copper, brass, other metals, plastics and exotics.
  • Inspect work for conformance to specifications.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in methods and processes related to improved productivity and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance related to the operations of machine tools and related equipment to the other machinists.
