About The Position

The Machinist III independently fabricates, modifies, repairs, and inspects parts, components, tooling, and fixtures to support manufacturing and engineering needs. This role interprets work orders, blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and models to determine required specifications, dimensions, and tolerances; selects appropriate tooling and workholding; sets up and operates manual machine tools and CNC equipment; and creates or modifies CNC programs within established procedures. The Machinist III verifies completed work using precision measuring instruments, maintains equipment, troubleshoots machining issues, and assembles components as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machining apprenticeship, technical program, or related coursework is preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of related machining experience, including manual machining and CNC setup and operation. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
• Demonstrated proficiency in manual machining processes, including cutting, drilling, tapping, and milling.
• Experience setting up and operating CNC vertical machining centers; experience with Haas equipment is preferred.
• Working knowledge of G-code and CNC machining processes, with the ability to create, enter, edit, and prove out CNC programs.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, models, dimensions, tolerances, and work instructions; working knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
• Knowledge of machining materials, tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds, lubricants, and setup methods.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, including rulers, calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software or multi-axis machining is preferred, with the ability and willingness to develop proficiency in these areas.
• Strong attention to detail, machining judgment, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work independently within established procedures and collaborate effectively with others.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States. No employment-based immigration sponsorship is offered.

• Completion of a machining apprenticeship, technical program, or related coursework is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, models, and specifications; plan machining sequences and select appropriate materials, tooling, workholding, and operating parameters.
• Set up and operate manual machine tools and related equipment to cut, drill, tap, mill, shape, and finish parts, components, tooling, and fixtures for prototypes, pilot builds, repairs, and production support.
• Set up and operate the Haas CNC vertical mill, including installing tooling and workholding, establishing offsets, aligning materials, and verifying machine operation.
• Create, enter, edit, and prove out CNC programs; adjust feeds, speeds, toolpaths, offsets, and other parameters to achieve required dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and quality.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to drawings and specifications.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, and equipment issues; make appropriate corrections and perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Improve machining methods to reduce setup and cycle time, extend tool life, minimize material waste, and improve quality.
• Develop proficiency in CAD/CAM and multi-axis machining as equipment and business requirements evolve.
• Maintain accurate production, material, maintenance, and quality records.
• Follow all safety requirements and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
• Work effectively with others to support organizational goals, resolve manufacturing and engineering problems, and demonstrate the established Visual Comfort Company Values.
