This position is responsible for heat treating parts, tools, and materials using various processes such as carburizing, plating, hardening, tempering, annealing, stress relieving, Babbitt, nitriding, brazing, and soldering. The role also involves operating a straightening press to correct deflection in bars, shafts, and rotors by applying heat and/or pressure. Additionally, the machinist will prepare bearing metals and parts, pour them to create parts, and prepare surfaces for phosphatizing, molly coating, and dalic plating. The role requires cutting material to length per the Route Tag and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work area. The machinist will also set up induction heaters, run trial heats, determine necessary settings, and check samples for hardness and distortion. They will prepare and perform various heat-treating operations and read various instruments and use measuring equipment. The role involves positioning workpieces, correcting deflection, and performing babbitting operations. The machinist will also apply various coatings and recognize and correct application errors. Recording necessary data and keeping the work area clean are also key responsibilities. The role requires the ability to perform duties without assistance except on unusual or difficult jobs, consistently producing work of proper quality and quantity.
