Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CNC machine operation experience required; large horizontal machine experience preferred.
  • Experience machining welded assemblies in a fire apparatus or heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
  • SNK machine experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fixturing, tooling, and process control.
  • Ability to properly align and zero welded assemblies.
  • Proficiency in first article inspection and tolerance verification.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 requirements related to production, inspection, and documentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to fabricate or modify tooling while maintaining process control.
  • Commitment to quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with moving equipment and fabricated metal components.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing preferred.
  • Preferred: Ability to create or program new CNC code to support new parts, tooling, process improvements, and design changes in compliance with ISO controls.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an SNK horizontal 3-axis CNC machine in accordance with approved work instructions, setup sheets, and CNC programs.
  • Perform machine setups for welded assemblies and fabricated components, identifying and establishing key reference points (datums) to ensure the assembly remains square, parallel, and accurately sized.
  • Verify correct tooling, fixturing, offsets, and programs prior to machining.
  • Ensure all production activities are performed under controlled conditions as required by ISO 9001.
  • Select, install, and verify fixturing and tooling to ensure part stability and repeatability.
  • Develop, modify, or assist in creating tooling or fixtures as required to meet part and quality requirements.
  • Ensure tooling and fixtures are maintained, identified, and used as intended to prevent nonconforming output.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Distinguish between plate-welded assemblies and straight pull-off machining requirements.
  • Identify key characteristics, datum references, and critical tolerances impacting product conformity.
  • Perform first article inspections to validate setup accuracy prior to production release.
  • Measure parts using calibrated inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
  • Verify product conformance to drawing specifications and key tolerances.
  • Accurately complete required inspection and quality documentation to support traceability and audit requirements.
  • Monitor machining operations to ensure ongoing compliance with quality requirements.
  • Make approved offset or parameter adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Identify, segregate, and report nonconforming product in accordance with the Nonconformance Control Procedure.
  • Participate in corrective and preventive action activities when required.
  • Edit existing CNC programs and offsets following approved change control procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records related to production, inspection, and quality activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process inefficiencies, quality risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area consistent with 5S and ISO expectations.
