About The Position

This position involves operating the Voortman V808 CNC machine safely and efficiently to process structural steel beams and other materials. The role requires reviewing CNC programs, work orders, and shop drawings, verifying material specifications, setting up the machine, monitoring operations, and inspecting processed materials for quality. It also includes identifying and reporting machine malfunctions, replacing consumables, performing basic maintenance, and operating material-handling equipment. Maintaining accurate production records, ensuring a clean work area, and adhering to safety policies are also key aspects of this role. Effective communication with supervision regarding production status and issues is essential, as is meeting production schedules, quality standards, and efficiency goals.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand shop drawings, measurements, CNC programs, and production instructions.
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and other inspection equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts, or willingness to obtain required certification.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to work second shift and overtime when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating CNC structural steel processing equipment preferred.
  • Experience operating a Voortman V808 or similar CNC machine is strongly preferred.
  • Machine-operation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Voortman V808 CNC machine safely and efficiently.
  • Load, position, and secure structural steel beams and other material for processing.
  • Review CNC programs, work orders, shop drawings, and production specifications.
  • Verify material size, grade, length, and processing requirements before starting production.
  • Set up the machine and verify the use of correct consumables and other required equipment.
  • Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as needed to maintain production and quality.
  • Inspect processed material for proper holes, cuts, dimensions, markings, and overall quality.
  • Identify machine malfunctions, consumable wear, and production problems and notify supervision when necessary.
  • Replace consumable tooling as required.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment as authorized.
  • Maintain accurate production records.
  • Keep the machine and surrounding work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate production status, machine issues, material concerns, and unfinished work to supervision.
  • Meet established production schedules, quality standards, and efficiency goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
