About The Position

This position involves performing diversified semi-skilled machining operations, including setup, adjustment, and operation of a wide variety of machining equipment to produce close tolerance parts according to print specifications. The role requires reading and interpreting complex drawings, charts, instructions, and diagrams. Additionally, the Machinist will provide instruction and training to other employees, set up and operate machining equipment, make exacting setups, and potentially program machining instructions. Responsibilities include loading/unloading parts, monitoring machine operations for malfunctions, recognizing and correcting faulty workmanship, performing inspections, communicating with coworkers, creating production process procedures, testing new tools and methods, maintaining the condition of the work cell, and collaborating with other departments to streamline production. The role also involves utilizing Continuous Improvement tools, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures, maintaining a clean work area, working safely, and assisting other departments as needed. This is a full-time position with potential for overtime.

Requirements

  • Minimum one year prior machining experience.
  • Capable of learning to run PC accurately.
  • Ability to perform to verbal instructions as well as read/write English and interpret documents of some complexity including specifications, route sheets, blueprints, charts, test information, bills of material.
  • Ability to plan and perform a sequence of operations, where standard or recognized operation methods are available and make decisions as to quality, tolerances, operation, and set-up.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools, gauges, testing devices and small machines to assemble components to specifications and test.
  • Thorough knowledge of feeds, speeds, materials, and work-holding devices (fixtures, arbors, jaws, etc.), as well as thorough understanding of production processes.
  • Solid basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, ratios).
  • Basic understanding of machinery and its purposes/capabilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to accurately record daily production.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, and to instruct, direct, and train others.
  • Capable of wearing safety glasses with permanent side shields at all times.
  • Capable of wearing steel-toed safety shoes at all times.
  • Capable of wearing other PPE as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diversified semi-skilled machining operations, including setup, adjustment, and operation of a wide variety of machining equipment to produce close tolerance parts adhering to print specifications.
  • Read and interpret fairly complicated drawings, charts, instructions, and diagrams.
  • Provide instruction/training to other employees to develop skills and produce production parts to specifications.
  • Set-up, adjust, and operate a wide variety of machining equipment and a wide variety of parts to close tolerance.
  • Make exacting setups.
  • Select feeds, speeds, and operational sequence, calculate ratios, and proof/edit and manually program machining instructions.
  • Load/unload parts, cycle machine, and run designated quantity for production run.
  • Maintain close proximity to work area to detect/diagnose malfunction in machine operations and determine need for adjustment or repair.
  • Recognize defective or faulty workmanship, correct and report issues to department lead.
  • Perform inspection of machined products, including documentation of results.
  • Communicate with co-workers regarding production runs.
  • Create/generate procedures of complexity for production processes.
  • Test new tools and methods.
  • Responsible for condition of the cell, machines, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Work closely with other departments (engineering, manufacturing engineering) to help smooth/streamline production processes.
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement tools to identify, reduce, eliminate waste and lower costs.
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly (5s standard).
  • Work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to other departments based on workloads and customer needs when limited/no work in area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
