About The Position

Atlas Machine & Supply is seeking motivated, dependable individuals to join our Machinist Co-Op / Apprentice Program at our Louisville machine shop. This opportunity is designed for students currently enrolled in a school-sponsored co-op program as well as high school graduates seeking to enter a registered machinist apprenticeship. This role provides hands-on experience in a production machine shop environment while developing the technical skills needed for a long-term career in machining. Atlas offers a structured machinist training pathway that combines supervised on-the-job learning with formal technical education.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school and participating in an approved school co-op program (for Co-Op Candidates)
  • Must meet all school co-op eligibility requirements (for Co-Op Candidates)
  • High school diploma or GED required (for Apprentice Candidates)
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and technical documentation
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Basic math proficiency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; whole numbers, fractions, and decimals)
  • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, sit, squat, twist, or stoop for extended periods
  • Ability to work in a moderate-noise shop environment

Nice To Haves

  • Students remain enrolled in school while gaining hands-on shop experience (for Co-Op)
  • Upon high school graduation, co-op participants may apply to the Atlas Apprenticeship Program
  • Apprentices may enter with some or all prior machining education completed (for Apprentices)
  • Additional Related Technical Instruction (RTI) hours will be provided during the apprenticeship through KMA, if needed (for Apprentices)

Responsibilities

  • Machine various materials as directed
  • Modify and adjust metal parts for special projects
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Repair or manufacture parts as directed
  • Assist with machine setup and teardown
  • Assist with assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment
  • Use, inspect, and maintain a variety of hand tools
  • Perform general shop tasks as assigned
  • Follow all safety procedures and shop standards
