About The Position

Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to machine metallic and nonmetallic parts. This is an intermediate level position that performs more varied and difficult aspects of the role. Unusual aspects are generally referred to supervision. At this level, the employee would have less latitude than an 'A' level in terms of decision making and un-reviewed actions. However, this level requires considerable know-how of the product, subject matter, principles, and concepts of the position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years’ experience.
  • Ability to operate CNC Mills & CNC Lathe.
  • Ability to operate Manual Mill, Manual Lathe, Automated Knee Mill and/or CNC Lathe.
  • Ability to operate Horizontal cut-off saw and disc sander as needed.
  • Able to use precision measuring equipment applicable to this job.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic AutoCad and Solidworks with the ability to check the geometry of drawings.
  • Well rounded knowledge of CNC CAM software.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or certain refugees/asylees).

Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Pulls drawings and checks geometry using AutoCad and SolidWorks software.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be machined.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers.

  • Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and/or equipment subject to export control restrictions and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products.

  • Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
