About The Position

This position interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines the sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup and arrangement. The Machinist C works with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments, makes shop computations, and fits and puts together precision parts. They determine material, parts, and equipment required. This role fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications using required machine tools, and inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements. The Machinist C sets up and operates machine tools, uses, adjusts, cleans, and stores the tools, machinery, and equipment used, and keeps records and reports of the use of equipment. The ability to obtain a US security clearance is also required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience OR 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to run machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired.
  • Manual machining experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions.
  • Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems.
  • The ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees.
  • Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
