Set up and operate all Tool Room equipment and CNC machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. Fit and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, material, and layout techniques. Work to tolerances of .001". Rely on comprehension of blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimension and tolerances of finished work-piece, sequence of operations, and setup equipment. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Set up own machines to make parts and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plates, surface table, hand tools, and power tools. Verify dimensions and alignments of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks. Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts as required. Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems as required. Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities. Inspect and measure parts to maintain statistical process control charts.
